Robert Kennedy started his political career with the aiding of his brother John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign. After JFK won the presidency, Robert Kennedy was given the position of Attorney General of the United States. The assassination of John Kennedy in 1963 created a new image of Robert Kennedy by not being in JFK’s shadow anymore. Nine months after his death Kennedy resigned as Attorney General, and won the senate seat for New York. When the 1968 presidential elections came along President Lyndon B. Johnson was supposed to seek re-election, and when the Democratic Party was shattered with his sudden decision to notexternal image bob47.jpg seek re-election Kennedy was faced with a predicament. Kennedy really considered this dilemma, and due to the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, and the poverty in America. Kennedy fought through the campaign to get the democratic nomination against democrat Eugene McCarthy, and Kennedy lost in the Oregon primary. Kennedy knew he had to win the California primary to get in his campaign. Kennedy’s victory in the primary didn’t last long after his speech at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California he was assassinated in the hotel kitchen by a man named Sirhan Sirhan on June 5, 1968.
